Forjas Taurus (translation: Taurus Forge), located in Porto Alegre, Brazil, is a diversified, international company and one of the world's largest small arms manufacturers. The company produced its first revolver in 1941. Bangor Punta, who owned Smith & Wesson in 1970, was interested in controlling Forjas Taurus. During the next seven years, a great technology and methodology passed between the two companies.
In 1974, Beretta won a contract to produce small arms for the Brazilian Army. The contract required Beretta to build a Brazilian factory and use Brazilian labor. When the contract expired in 1980, Beretta sold the plant to Forjas Toros. To this day, Forjas Taurus had new Brazilian control owners who bought Forjas Taurus from Bangor Punta in 1977. Forjas Taurus once owned everything that once belonged to Beretta, including drawings, tools, machines and a highly experienced workforce. Forjas Taurus was in the pistol business and resulted in the popular and acclaimed Taurus PT-92 and PT-99 9mm pistols in Beretta design.
The next milestone for Forjas Taurus came in 1982. Forjas Taurus founded Toros Holdings, Inc. in Miami, Florida. Toros Holdings founded Toros International Manufacturing, Inc., respectively. The Taurus brand was not known in the US at that time. This was to change dramatically over the next few years.
In 1984, Toros Holdings made an announcement that had a tremendous impact on the entire industry. Toros Holding became the first company to offer a qualified LIFETIME POLICY to its customers. This changed the course of the company in the US market. Recently this policy has been matched. Never exceeded. This innovative policy made everyone look out for Taurus firearms.
