Cadherin-11 which is also referred to as CAD11 or CDH11 for short, is essentially made up of a single membrane spanning domain, N-terminal extracellular domain and a cytoplasmic C-terminal that is highly conserved. The full length cadherin-11 of mouse and human display around 97% amino acid homology. It is found to be expressed in a large number of normal tissues which are predominately mesodermal for example: osteoblasts, kidney and brain. The ability to upregulate during osteoblastic cell line differentiation may indicate a role for cadherin-11 in bone development and maintenance.
