The term solar energy refers to energy from the sun that is technically available to humans. It is utilized using photovoltaics and solar thermal energy and can be used as electricity, heat or chemical energy. Solar thermal systems gain thermal energy from solar radiation and are therefore useful for hot water preparation and heating support. Photovoltaic systems convert solar energy into electricity. This can then be used for your own needs, e.g. electrical or household appliances, or it can be fed into the public electricity grid and paid back in monetary terms. Both systems can be combined with each other if there is enough space.
