Schellack;
Schellack ist ein hartes, sprödes Harz produziert von der weiblichen Lacklaus Kerria lacca. Die hauptsächlich in Indien beheimatete Laus saugt dem Baum den Saft aus und scheidet ihn als Harz wieder aus. Kokonartige Gebilde entstehen und kommen nach Reinigungs- und Bleichprozessen in blätterartiger Form in den Handel. Die Farben des Harzes gehen vom hellen Gelb, über Orange, Rot bis zum dunklen Braun, je nach Erntezeit und Baumsorte.
